Weekend Scenic Train Ride

Dad and I had the opportunity to take a train ride from Fillmore to Santa Paula on Saturday, March 15, 2008. However, once we were on aboard, we found out that due to track construction in the city of Fillmore, we would be going to Piru instead. The ride was fun, but I don't believe it to be as scenic as the the run to Santa Paula. We stopped for 1 hour in Piru. There is not much to do there, so we walked up to the Piru Mansion. It was kinda cool. A man from San Francisco owns it, and when we were purchasing an ice cream cone we discovered that the lady in the ice cream shop worked at the mansion during the week cleaning it. She didn't speak much English but she did say that the place was very beautiful. We did get rained on as we walked about town.

We ate a delicious tuna salad with strawberry shortcake for dessert. It was very good. Here is a picture of the dining car.

While in Piru, we located the Heritage Valley Inn established in 1890 is Historical Landmark #124. Such people as Mary Pickford was a guest of the hotel in 1910 while filming Ramona.

This is the Piru Mansion that we walked to. As we walked back to the train the rain began to fall. It definitely made us walk a little faster.

Following are just some random photos of the view from the train. We did stop at a bee farm and were able to taste different flavors of honey such as: clover, buckwheat, orange and eucalyptus .
